John married Mary "Polly" Whipple (2/15/1767-1854) on July 12, 1786. She was the daughter of High Sheriff Whipple of New York.
In 1780, Elisha (John's father) deeded him 100 acres of land. Five months later John was captured by the Indians. John served several enlistments during the Revolutionary War (between 1778 and 1880) under different New York troop commands.
He lived in Granville, NY in February 1789. He also resided in Windsor, Vermont and Villenova New York. John Kent was pensioned.
John Kent is buried at the Presbyterian Cemetery on Buffalo Street in Erie County, Gowanda, NY. The stones are no longer in the cemetery but "were plowed over many decades ago."
