Viola Alexander Kahl was born in Mississippi to Minnie Couch Alexander and Tony Alexander. The family moved to Arkansas and then to Columbia.

Viola married Philip W. Kahl, and the couple lived in Tuttletown, about eight miles from this cemetery. On October 10, 1922, Viola gave birth to Clarence Howard Kahl. He was called by his middle name of Howard.

On January 13, 1925, Viola passed away in San Joaquin County at the age of 23.

Death of Mrs. Kahl

The many friends of Mrs. Ruth Alexander Kress of Yankee Hill, and Jobe Alexander of the Columbia Marble Quarry will learn with regret of the death of their sister, Viola Alexander Kahl, which occurred at Escalon, California, Tuesday morning at 7:00.

Deceased, who was the beloved wife of Philip Kahl, came to Columbia from Oklahoma 12 years before her death with her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Alexander, her sister and brother above mentioned, and five other younger brothers. They lived for a time in Yankee Hill and Pine Log until the death of Mrs. Alexander at Pine Log some four years ago.

Viola's death was due to goitre and other complications.

The funeral was held on a Friday from the O'Beirne Undertaking Parlors, Sonora, at 10:00 a.m., interment being made in the City cemetery, Columbia.

Viola and Philip had one son, Howard, who joined the Army during WWII. He passed away in September 1978, in Fairbanks, Fairbanks North Star, Alaska.

Viola's husband, Philip Kahl, was was killed by a falling oak tree on April 11, 1949, when he was woodcutting on Table Mountain. He is buried in the Kahl family plot, Sonora City Cemetery.

Viola was followed in death two years later by her youngest brother, Samuel. She, her mother and Samuel all rest together here.
