On June 18, 1921, Ruth Cynthia Alexander married Louis Kress at the home Louis built for her on the Kress Ranch on Italian Bar Road, Columbia. She was the mother of J. Bartel Kress and the daughter of Minnie Couch Alexander and Tony Alexander. She was very active in the community of Columbia and was an essential participant in the effort to build the swimming pool at Columbia Elementary School. Ruth was the sister of Viola Alexander and Samuel Alexander, who are buried with their mother in this cemetery. Her other siblings were Jobe Alexander, who is also buried in this cemetery, David W., Tony, Paul, Gordan and Murphy Alexander.
A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Kress had lived in Tuolumne County for 64 years. She was a member of the Tuolumne County Garden Club.
Of all her siblings, only Paul survived her. He was living in Carson City at the time of her death. Ruth was also survived by her son, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
