Besides her husband, Mary was survived by her sister, Anna Ennis; a brother, Antone Bettencourt Silva of Petaluma, California, who lived from 11/01/1849 to 01/01/1943; and her children, Antone, Mary, Manuel, John, Leonora, Faustino, and an infant son. She had more siblings who survived her.
Mary is believed by her descendants to have been 29 at time of her death because the 1870 Marin County census indicates that she was 20 in May 1870 when the census was taken.
Mary's mother's maiden name was Bettencourt.
Mary was born in Sao Jorge, Azores Islands. Her husband sailed back to the Islands to marry her and bring her to California.
They lived on a farm along the waterfront in Tiburon where they raised and sold vegetables, and in 1872, they settled near Tuttletown.
