Civil War Confederate Army Officer. Born in Tobaccoport near Bumpus Mills, Tennessee, he helped to form Company E of the 14th Tennessee Infantry Regiment at the outset of the Civil War and was elected Colonel by the men in the regiment. He came home in late 1861 from Virginia, for unknown reasons, where the 14th Tennessee Regiment was General Archer's command. He was wounded during a skirmish near Bear Creek as the Union forces approached Fort Donelson from the west. He was a lawyer in Dover before the war, and after the war, he continued in his law practice. After the war, he was also elected to the Tennessee State Legislature. He sold his properties in Dover and died at his home on Dyers Creek in the area of Joiner Hollow Road.
