Frank's father, Valentine Gillig (Dec 1829-?), was born in Bavaria, as was his mother, Mary Fahn (Aug 1829-?).

Other children of Valentine and Mary Gillig are: George Gillig (1861-?), Henry Gillig (1864-?), and Andrew Gillig (1869-1941.

Valentine Gillig was a Civil War veteran--on 6 Feb 1965 he enlisted in Company H, Illinois 150th Infantry Regiment, and was mustered out in Atlanta, Georgia on 18 Jan 1866.

In the 1900 US Census, Valentine and Mary Gillig were living on Fillmore St. in Edwardsville, IL with Mary's brother, John Fahn (b. 1827 in Germany --?), next door to Frank and Emma Gillig and their children.

In the 1910 census Valentine and Mary Gillig are not there, and presumably moved elsewhere or died between 1900 and 1910.
