James Annis was born in Freedom, NY, the son of David Newell Annis and Lucyette E. (Turner) Annis.
He enlisted on November 16, 1863 in the 32nd Wisconsin Infantry and was mustered into government service at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is described as a single farmer residing at Lamartine, Wisconsin. James died while still in training at Camp Randall, Madison, Wisconsin, of an unspecified disease, on January 11, 1864.
