Albert Laun was born to Frank Laun and Mary Bernasek Laun on August 5, 1907, at Tobias, and passed away on October 21, 1993, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 16 days. He was one of two children in the family.
Albert was born and lived on the same farm for 71 years until his health failed and he went to live with his sister, Marie in Milligan. He attended school until the eighth grade at the Star School, District No. 89 in Atlanta precinct. He then started helping his parents with farming.
In September of 1986, he went to live at Heritage of Geneva until 1990, when he moved to the Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron.
Albert never married but his nephews and nieces were a very important part of his life.
Albert enjoyed his time spent in the nursing homes. He always had a smile for everyone he saw. He was a very special person to members of the staff at the nursing home.
He was always seen at nearly all the activities, bingo, movies, sing-alongs and rhythm band. He especially enjoyed the horse races and he would always come home with some change in his pocket and a smile on his face, cause his horse won.
His favorite pastime was listening to polkas. He also enjoyed all the family gatherings when all the great-nieces and nephews were there. He also enjoyed gardening until his health failed.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary; a sister, Marie Simacek and his grandparents.
He is survived by nephew, Myron (Luella) Simacek of Ong; by nieces, Darlene (Marvin) Schroder of Fairbury, and Thelma (Richard) Schellhorn of Gladstone; by five great-nieces and nephews; by great-great-nieces and nephews ; and by many cousins and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home-Kotas Chapel in Milligan on Monday, October 25, with the Rev. John Scavo officiating.
Diane Zeleny accompanied Robert Kassik who sang "In the Garden" and "Softly and Tenderly" (in Czech).
Casket bearers were Melvin Vavra, Norris Bernasek, Milo Houser, Ervin Bernasek, Rudy Capek and Robert Vocasek. Honorary casket bearers were Kirk Schroder, Chris Schellhorn, Kimberly Vernon, Karinda Schroeder and Cherie Schellhorn.
Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery.
