Mary Low

ROCK ISLAND -- Mary Phillips Low, 83, of Rock Island, died Friday, April 18, 1997, at Trinity Medical Center-East Campus, Moline.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.

Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Low was a homemaker.

Mary Phillips was born Oct. 3, 1913, in New York, N.Y., to Frank and Jane (Gibson) Phillips. She married Marcus C. Low Sr. on June 8, 1935, in Chicago. They were married 61 years.

She was a member of the Davenport Club, Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club and Lindsay Park Yacht Club.

She was devoted to her husband, children and extended family.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association.

Survivors include her husband; sons and daughters-in-law, Marcus C. Low Jr. and Barbara, Milwaukee, Frank Low and Tamara, Bettendorf, and James Low and Susan, Davenport; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Begrisch, Rye, N.Y.; and a special friend, Carlene Dilley, Rock Island.

She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Lori Low, and a brother, John Phillips.

Mary and her sister, Sarah, were foster children of Frank and Jane Phillips. Although they were raised by the Phillips' they were not officially adopted. Frank and Jane's only biological child was a son named John.
