Arthur "Sweet" Pippens-White of Port Huron went home to be with the Lord on July 3, 2011 in Port Huron Hospital. Mr. White was born January 11, 1923 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Edd and Hattie (Montgomery) White. He married Lula B. Spears, and to this union, one child was born, Pamela White-Miles. Arthur served his country with pride during WWII in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the American Theater Ribbon. He loved to golf, and worked and played golf at St. Clair River Country Club for over 30 years. He was also employed at the Port Huron Times Herald where he retired after several years of dedicated service. Mr. White was co-owner of Swepco Blacktopping. Mr. White loved to play his saxophone. The Art White Quartet was his pride and joy. He entertained many with his musical talent. He was a life member of the Port Huron Federation of Musicians, and a member of the Central Star Masonic Lodge #23. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife Lula B., one daughter, Pamela (Ron) Miles of Port Huron, one son, Jimmie Lee McMillian of Port Huron, 2 step-sons, Raymond (Linda) Lloyd of New Haven, and Charles (Cheryl) Lloyd of Port Huron, 3 grandchildren Shawnese Miles of Xenia, Ohio, Ron Miles Jr. of Warren, and Jalyn Miles of Port Huron, 8 step-grandchildren, 9 step-greatgrandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, KC, and Mamie Norman of Port Huron, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Hattie, and brothers, William, Frederick, and Val Pippens, and Lester White, and a sister, Edna Pippens Brown. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street with Pastor Al White officiating. Burial will follow in the Allied Veterans Cemetery under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
