VALLEY CENTER - Simon Ortiz, 74, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Chase Care Center in El Cajon. Born June 1, 1928, in Rancho Los Adobes, Jalisco, Mexico, he lived in Valley Center for 46 years. He retired in 1994 as a landscaper and did grove care for 51 years for Tierra Del Verde in Pauma Valley. He served as a corporal in the Mexican army. He was a sergeant at arms of the Valley Center Knights of Columbus. Mr. Ortiz was preceded in death by his twin son and daughter, Jose and Maria De La Luz, in 1955. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lupe Ortiz of Valley Center; daughters and sons-in-law Maria and Kurt Morgan of El Cajon, Linda and Patrick Cohan of Livermore and Pamela and Dennis Dick of Los Angeles; sons and daughters-in-law Frank and Kathy Ortiz of San Marcos, Simon Jr. and Cathy Ortiz and Ernie Ortiz, all of Poway, and Emilio and Victor Ortiz, both of Valley Center; brother Benjamin Ortiz of Rancho Los Adobes, Jalisco, Mexico; grandchildren Diana, Laura, Sheri, Sheri, Kaitlyn, Christina, Teresa, Joe, Amber, Andrea and Mikayla; and one great-grandson. Viewing is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. and rosary recited at 8 p.m. Monday, March 31, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 31020 Cole Grade Road in Valley Center. A Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Interment will take place at Valley Center District Cemetery in Valley Center.
