US Navy Rear Admiral. Eaton's early education was in the private schools of Lockport, New York followed by the Union academy, as part of the Worcester Military academy. In 1867 he graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Over the years he served abroad as well numerous shore assignment. He served as commanding officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise, U.S.S. Resolute, U.S.S. Chesapeake, U.S.S. Oregon and U.S.S. Massachusetts. During the Spanish American War commanding officer of the Gunboat U.S.S. Resolute. His command during the battle captured the enemy vessel Colon, and captured the entire crew of 545 officers and crew. He was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1905 and retired from the Navy in 1906, after thirty nine years of service.
