CONCORDIA — Sister Damien Weigel, 92, Concordia, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1993, at the St. Joseph's Hospital, Concordia.
Sister Damien was born Appolonia Weigel on Sept. 8, 1901, at Emmeram. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1916 and was given her religious name in 1917. Sister Damien was a teacher at Plainville, Schoenchen, Gorham, Aurora and Marymount College, Salina. She served for a short time at the orphanage at Abilene and later was assigned as a Sister-visitor at St. John's Hospital, Salina, where she served for nearly 50 years before retiring in 1988.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
The Bible vigil will be at 7 p.m. today at the Motherhouse Chapel, Concordia.
An Eucharistic Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, Monsignor Alfred Wasinger officiating. Burial will be in Convent Cemetery, Concordia. The Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, is handling arrangements.
