Mrs. Thelma Hunter Totherow of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, June 13, 2000. Mrs. Totherow, a daughter of the Rev. Raleigh Arlando and Della Lowrey Hunter, was born in Greensboro.

She spent most of her life in Winston-Salem, where she graduated from Oldtown High School and attended Salem College. She enjoyed many activities. She was a past president of La Sertoma and a circle leader at Ardmore Methodist Church, where she had been an active and supportive member for 50 years. She was also a member of Forsyth Country Club and the Democratic Party. Two of her favorite pastimes were her ladies bridge clubs and her numerous "cousins parties."

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Carl D. Totherow; a sister, Hyacinth Hunter Diamont; and a brother, R.A. Hunter Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Totherow Baker and husband John C. of Winston-Salem, and Beverly Totherow Seay and husband Joseph G. of Jacksonville, Fla. In addition, she is survived by six beloved grandchildren, Jamie Peterson Bender of Delray Beach, Fla., Hunter Ryan Peterson of Boston, Jason Douglas Peterson of Wilmington, Nancy Seay Anderson of Dallas, Jennifer Ann Seay of Charleston, S.C., and Benjamin Daniel Seay of Jacksonville, Fla. She is also survived by a great-grandson, John Jeffrey "Jack" Bender; her brothers, Charles Latimer Hunter, James Crews Hunter and William Harris Hunter; and her nieces and nephews, who were a source of joy to her.

The family will hold a private interment at Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Ardmore United Methodist Church.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Salvation Army, 1255 N. Trade St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101, or Little Theater of Winston-Salem, 610 Coliseum Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. (Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel)
