JOHN HENRY SCHROER, JR.

John passed away on July 15, 2011 in Chico, CA. He was born on October 14, 1918 in Mount Angel, Oregon, to John N. and Agatha Schroer. John graduated from Orland High School, where he was active in the Future Farmers of America and participated in the 1937 Future Farmers on Parade Radio Broadcast in San Francisco. He continued on to receive his American Farmer degree.

John and his sister, Dorothy danced at the Hollywood Palladium in the 1940's and his favorite songs were from the "1940's Big Band era". John began his dairy farming career in Orland, along with his parents and siblings, and later moved his dairy herd to the Collier Ranch on Chico River Road. "That dairy was the start of my life." His Jersey cows were his pride and joy. He showed cattle throughout California, winning many awards. One of his favorite places to visit was the California Redwoods. As a life-long fan, he enjoyed attending 49'er and Giants games.

In 1949, John married Rosemary Haw at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Chico. In 1953, they purchased a small farm on Aguas Frias Road, south of Chico, where they raised their four children and continued dairy farming. John was an original contributor to the University Foundation Dairy Herd at Chico State in the 1950's. John was a member of the Orland and Durham Grange Halls, and the Jersey Cattle Club of California.

In 1970, John married Katy Runge of Willows, and they continued to dairy farm. He helped raise her son, Curtis (Pam) Runge and their family.

He is preceded by his parents; wife, Katy; brother, Raymond Schroer, and sister, Dorothy Keyawa.

John is survived by his children and their spouses: James (Tray) Schroer; Mary (Bob) Poulin; Heidi (Mike) Hovey; and Patty (Randy) Jones, all of Chico and Durham.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Marissa (Rahul) Vaish, Dane (Kristy) Gregory, Lindsay Poulin, Melanie Gregory, Jake Jones, Nathan Jones, Calvin Jones, and one great-grandson, Benjamin Gregory.

His surviving siblings are: Bill (Bea) Schroer, Marie Lippencott, Dick (Terry) Schroer, Jeane (Joe) Sica, and Donna (Jerry) Wall. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.
