She moved to Wild Horse, Colorado with her Father and her siblings Freda, Arthur, and Ed in 1909. She homesteaded there. Esther married Clarence Higgins in 1910. They moved to Idaho. She and Clarence divorced in the late 1920s. She raised their six children in Idaho. Then she followed them to the places they moved to.
