He was born in Jackson, Miss., and lived in Manassas since 1963. He served in CC Camp for several years. He was an insurance agent for Security Life for a number of years and was a retired manager of Home Furnishing Company in Statesboro. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Walterboro, S.C.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Clara Lee Powell Porter of Manassas; a son, Hugh Porter of Manassas; a daughter, Shirley C. Sapp of Manassas; two sisters, Annie Jean Williams of Collins and Kater Jernigan of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, Ben Porter of Palatka, Fla., and Don Porter of Macon; a cousin, Geneva Brelan of Savannah; a granddaughter, Cindy S. Eason of Manassas; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: Today at NeSmith Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Tuesday at NeSmith Funeral Home, burial in Anderson Church Cemetery.
