Astronomer. Rowbotham was the founder of the Flat Earth Society. He believed that the Earth was flat and not round. He travelled extensively starting in 1849 for over 35 years publishing and lecturing about his beliefs. In 1849 he wrote his work, "Zetetic Astronomy: A Description Of Several Experiments Which Prove That The Surface Of The Sea Is A Perfect Plane And That The Earth Is Not A Globe!" He became instrumental with the founding in England and New York of the Universal Zetetic Society in 1873.
