.. Allen W. Cornish died at his home here, Friday, (Jan. 14th) aged 88 years. He had been ill about two weeks and his death was due more to old age than disease. He was born in Oldtown, near Plymouth, Mass., and when a boy came to Lee with his parents. For many years he conducted the hotel at Stokes and after his retirement from the hotel business engaged in farming at this place. He was also interested in buying and selling cattle with the late Daniel G. Drummond of Lee.
.. In politics he was a Republican and he took great interest in public matters. He had held several town offices, including that of assessor. The deceased enjoyed a wide acquaintance in Oneida and Lewis counties and was universally respected and esteemed.
.. He is survived by his wife and seven children: Mrs. C. F. King, Mrs. C. W. Barber and George M. Cornish of Rome, Mrs. S. A. Byers of Vineland, N. J., O. W. Cornish and Miss Mary Cornish of Lee Center and Mrs. J. E. Allen of Delta; also the following brothers and sisters: Aaron Cornish of Camden, Colo., Joel Cornish of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Emily Hall of Camden and Mrs. Abbie Bronson of Manchester, Iowa.
.. The funeral was held at the Universalist church, Sunday, at 2 p.m., Rev. L. D. Case of Rome officiating.
