Major League Baseball Player. He played Major League Baseball as a catcher for twelve seasons with the Boston Rustlers/Brave (1909 to 1913), the Indianapolis Hoosiers-Newark Peppers of the Federal League (1914 to 1915), the New York Giants (1916 to 1918) and the Cincinnati Reds (1919 to 1920). Born in Bedford, Indiana, he made his debut on August 12, 1909, with the Boston Rustlers. Noted as one of the best catchers of era, he led the league in catchers twice in putouts, assists and base runners caught stealing. In 1919 he was also a member of the Cincinnati Reds team which won the World Series over the scandal plagued Chicago White Sox. He concluded his career with a record of a .972 fielding percentage, 682 hits, 7 homeruns, 272 runs batted in and a .237 batting average. He died at age 54 Bedford, Indiana.
