Pvt. Thomas O. Hildreth, 40th NC Artillery, captured Fort Fisher, NC. Paroled for release but too sick to travel. He was from Ansonville, Anson County, NC.

Thomas Hildreth also served in the Mexican American War with his brother Rufus Reddick Hildreth who was killed in the Battle of Vera Cruz, Mexico. Rufus is buried in the American Cemetery in Mexico City. Both proudly served as NC Volunteers.
