Ocar Brake, 74, resident of Custer township since 1914, passed away at his home We. at 1:00 a.m. He had recently suffered two strokes. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Custer township, with a Masonic service at the graveside. Mr Brake was well known in this area as a building contractor. He was born Nov 30, 1875 to James and Anna Brake. He attended Marysville High School. After school he farmed for a while and then went into construction work. He spent four years in Seattle and Tacoma, Washington and returned to Ohio to live in Bellefontaine and Lima. He married the former Ethel Southard on June 20, 1907, at West Mansfield, Ohio. In 1914, the family moved to Antrin Co. and lived in Custer Twp., where he set up a sawmill and shingle mill and continued his work as a building contractor until 1930, when he retired. Mr Brake was a life member of the Masonic Lodge here. He was presented with the membership by his son William two years ago, the first father-son combination of this kind in Bellaire. He had previously belonged to the Royal Arch and the Commandery at Traverse City, and had been an active member of The Grange for many years. He leaves his wife and two children, Mrs Ann Bebb and William Brake, both of Custer Twp., and four grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
