Died at St. Petersburg, Florida, Feb 4, 1927 aged 86. His house was 240 W. Tulpehocken St., Germantown, Philadelphia. He was president of the Cambria Steel Company.
He was born in Philadelphia July 16, 1840, son of Joseph D. and Sarah P. Stackhouse, both Friends. He entered Central High School from Northeast Grammar School at 14. In 1856 he went to work for Wood, Morrell and Co., then lessees of the Cambria Iron Works.
In April 1861 he enlisted in the Johnstown [PA] Zouave Cadets and served through the war and was a major of a battalion.
He was also the president of the Mahoning Ore and Steel Company, of the Penn Iron Mining Company and the First Vice President of the American Iron and Steel Institute.
He leaves a widow, 2 sons, Daniel M. of Johnstown and Powell of San Antonio, New Mexico, and 2 daughters Mrs. Willard A. McCalla and Mrs. Bevan A. Pennypacker, the son of the late governor.
Major Stackhouse is buried in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA.
