EXERCISES HELD


Five High School Students
Receive Diplomas -

Commencement address to high school and eighth grade graduates of the Herring schools was delivered last night by J. O. Tuton, of this city.

Five senior students to graduate were Roy and Clarence Fowler, Seth Stout, Miss Iva Dykes, and Miss Thelma Thomas. Several eighth grade students received diplomas presented by Lloyd S. Patterson, superintendent.

Valedictorian and salutatorian addresses were made and music selections were rendered by a trio of young women. The processional was led by the school faculty.

Seth Stout, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Stout of Herring, succeeded in winning highest honors in his class in the Herring High School and was awarded a Free Scholarship in his choice of Stenographic, Bookkeeping or Telegraphic Course at the Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo.

Honouring Pvt. Seth Stout of Camp Adair, Oregon, members of his family entertained with a dinner Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Stout, Sandstone.

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Lesle Andris and son, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Andris of Sandstone, Mrs. Johnnie Ashworth and daughter of Herring, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Walker and children of Grandview, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Andrews and children of Lookeba, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Moore and son and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stout and daughter of Berlin and Private Stout. Jack Rotan and Mrs. Beulah Ronan visited the group during the afternoon.

Farewell Dinner


Cpl. Seth "Buck" Stout was honored Sunday with a Easter birthday and farewell dinner by Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Andris in their home in the Sandstone Community.

Those who were present were the hosts and their son, Mrs. Johnnie Ashworth and daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stout and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Moore and son. Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Walker and children, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Foster and children of Farwell, Texas who spent Saturday evening in the honore's home and Cpl. Stout and his mother, Mrs. J. B. Stout.

Cpl. Stout accompanied the Fosters as far as Amarillo Monday and returned to Camp Carson, Colorado.

A dinner and family reunion honoring Cpl. Seth Stout at the home of his mother, Mrs. Lagolia Stout was held recently.

Family members and guests attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Andris and son, J. B. of Cheyenne, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stout and daughters Marie Jean, and Jimmie Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Moore and son Theodore all of Berlin, Mr, and Mrs. Dwight Moore, Mrs. Johnie Ashworth and daughter Jo Burl, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Walker and children, Dale, Jeanetta and Don, of Leedey, Mrs. Henry Andrews and children Deloris, Henry Lee and Goldie Mae, of Lookeba, Caroll Jo Allen of Herring and the honoree, Cpl. Joel Stout.

Cpl. Stout left Tuesday for Camp Chaffee, Arkansas to report for further assignment.

In May 1954 Buck was living in Elk City.
In June 1960 Buck was living in Elk City.
Buck moved his family to Colorado and in 1973 he was living in Colorado Springs.
In April 1997 Buck was retired and living in Elk City.

Seth "Buck" Stout

Funeral services for Seth "Buck" Stout will be conducted Thursday, March 20th, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. from the Martin Funeral Home Chapel of Elk City with Rev. Lonnie DiSalvo and Rev. T.D. Gifford officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.

Seth "Buck" Stout was born near Hammon, Oklahoma on April 16, 1913 to James Burrell and Lagolia (Kemp) Stout. His family moved back to Texas and returned to Oklahoma and settled at Herring, Oklahoma when Buck was five years old. Buck graduated at Herring High School as the Valedictorian of his class. He farmed until he was called into the United States Army in 1942. He was a sergeant in the Timberwolf Divison. He served his country in Germany, Belgium and France. When he returned home he farmed, then became a carpenter.

He was married to Lorraine Wyatt in Elk City, Oklahoma where they made their home. They have two sons, Bobby and his wife Carolyn of Arlington, Texas and Joe and his wife Alda of Columbia, Connecticut, two granddaughters, Alicia Moyer and her husband Tom and their children, Hunter and Dakota and Sonya Edwards and her husband Jason and their daughter Whitley all of Arlington, Texas, a grandson, Brant Stout of Columbia, Connecticut.

Buck worked as a Civil Engineer at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base until it closed. He was transferred to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he worked until he retired in 1979. They moved back to Elk City, Oklahoma in 1979.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine Stout of the Elk City home, two sons, Bobby and Joe and their families, one sister, Lagolia Finchum of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be given to the Missions Program at the First Assembly of God Church in Elk City, Oklahoma.
