Alva M. Coon Dies Suddenly At Farm Home Thursday p.m.
Alva M. Coon, well known farmer of the community northwest of town, died suddenly at his home late Thursday. He had worked in the field practically all day and when it was apparent he was not feeling well, he was directed to rest. Later he became seriously ill and soon died.
Funeral services were conducted at the New Harmony Baptist church of which he was a member at 2 p.m. Sunday and burial was made in the Mountain View cemetery. Omer C. Delk conducted the final rites.
Alva Marion Coon was born at Salem, Nebr. July 24, 1890 and was 55 years of age at the time of his death. He was married to Ella Huse Swearengen Jan. 8, 1910 and to them 11 children were born. Three children preceded their father in death.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. A.M. Coon, and their children; Mrs. Leo Posey, Mrs. Joe Posey, Mrs. Dick Evans, all of Mountain View; Howard V. Coon and Mrs. D.B. Duncan, Wichita, Kansas; Samuel H. Coon, in armed forces; Mrs. Burdette Fowler, Denver; and Allen K. Coon at home.
Other close relatives are his mother, Mrs. A.A. Coon, Mountain View; and four brothers, Oscar of California, George of Garland, Texas and Orville and Shelly of Mountain View; also three sisters, Mrs. Elmer Smith, Huntington Park, California; Mrs. Waymon Lassiter, Washington, D.C.; and Mrs. Guthrie Howard, Mountain View; eight of his grandchildren also survive.
