Heart Attack Is Fatal For Pioneer Of New Harmony
Services for Mrs. Ella H. Coon were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the New Harmony Baptist church northwest of Carnegie. Rev. Omer C. Delk, pastor, pastor, officiated. Interment was in the Mountain View cemetery.
Mrs. Coon died suddenly Thursday, December 8, of a heart attack in her home in the New Harmony community.
Ella H. Swearengen was born September 22, 1894, in Indian Territory. She was married to Alva M. Coon on January 8, 1910, and to them six sons and five daughters were born. Three infants sons and her husband preceded her in death.
She was married to Oscar M. Coon on January 8, 1953. She had been a resident of the community northwest of Carnegie the past 40 years and was a member of the New Harmony Baptist church.
She is survived by her husband, Oscar of the home; three sons, Howard of Perryton, Texas, Sam H., Carnegie, and Alan K. of Long Beach, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Opal Posey and Mrs. Fay Posey, Mountain View, Mrs. Edna Evans, Carnegie, Mrs. Violet Duncan, Leon, Kans., and Mrs. Georgia Fowler of Wichita; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving her are two sisters, Mrs. Ada Keister of Hutchinson, Kans., and Mrs. Mary Grey, Ulysses, Kans., and two brothers, Sim Swearengen, Middleothian, Texas, and Owen Swearengen, Garden City, Kans., and many other relatives and friends.
