Edmund "Bud" Grooms worked on ranches in the Broadus area until 1929 when he moved to Billings. He then worked for Northern Pacific Railroad as a brakeman until his retirement in 1970. He has lived in Billings since.
He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and fishing.
He was a member of Moose Lodge and Railroad Carman Union.
Mr. Grooms, 81, of 3436 Winchell Lane, died Thursday in Valley Health Care Center after a long illness.
He was born in Valentine, Neb., a son of George and Mabel Grooms. He moved to Broadus with his parents in 1910, where he was raised and educated. On Feb. 11, 1972, he married Barbara Deweld Lassle in Billings.
Survivors include his wife; four adopted children, Agnes Ward of Billings, Helen Mumoz of Arizona, Frieda Mercer of Glasgow and Anthony Grooms of Billings; two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Arnold of 3436 Winchell Lane and Mrs. Violet Ward of Pasco, Wash.; five brothers, Glen and Ellis Grooms both of Apache Junction, Ariz., Lynn Grooms of Cody, Who., Ralph Grooms of 409 Lincoln Lane, and Joe Grooms of Billings; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Smith West Chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
