Prominent Alliance businessman Joseph Sarchione Sr., 85, of 22841 Alliance-Sebring Road, died at Alliance City Hospital at 12:30 a.m. yesterday following a three-year illness.
Mr. Sarchione retired in 1955 as president of Sarchione and Sons and Mahoning Auto Sales. Early in life he served as a mechanic's apprentice in the Erie Railroad shops in Jersey City, N. J. and worked with railroad companies in New Castle., Pa. and East St. Louis, Ill, before becoming engine inspector in Canton.
An active Mason he was a 50-year member of J. E. McFadden Lodge 697, F. and A.M. and also a member of Al Koran Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. of Cleveland; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton; Alliance Chapter 83, Royal Arch Masons; Alliance Commandery 67, Knights Templar; Alliance Council 112, Royal and Selected Masters, and the Alliance Shrine Club.
Mr. Sarchione was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a life member of the Alliance Elks Lodge. He was a former director of the Stark County Automobile Association.
He was born in Gissi, Italy March 19, 1890 and had lived in this area since 1920.
Survivors include Mr. Sarchione's wife, Fannie (Carvella); four daughters, Mrs. Louie (Mary) Andriotti, Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Admonius, Mrs. John (Angeline) Kuches and Mildred Kessopulos, all of Alliance; four sons, Joseph E. of the home, Eugene and John V. of Alliance and Harry E. of Beloit; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
