John Burns Died on Saturday
John Burns, a resident of this vicinity for the past 45 years, passed away at the St. Clare hospital, where he had made his home for a number of years, on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Burns suffered a partial stroke of paralysis in January, but had been able until recently to come down town each day for a short time.
Mr. Burns was born in Muskogee, Wisconsin, on Aug. 31, 1873, and was past 83 years of age at the time of his death. He spent his early life in Wisconsin and for a number of years was on the police force at Muskogee. He came to Fort Benton and Chouteau county in 1912 and purchased a relinquishment on land about six miles east of this city, farming for 15 years or more, and then moved to this city where he had since made his home. He was well known by all residents of this city and always had a hearty greeting for all he met. He never married.
Mr. Burns is survived by a brother, Eugene Burns, who lives at Milwaukee, Wis. He also is survived by a nephew, Joe Smith, and a niece, Mrs. Margaret Imbert, both of this city, and a nephew, Arthur Smith, of Laurel, Mont., and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held this morning at 10 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, with Rev. Fr. Leo Janson officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery.
