Riley Mitchell Caya was born on June 1, 1873 in Lynxville, WI to Leander Antoine and Candice (Griffin) Caya. He passed away on September 14, 1961 at a Prairie du Chien Hospital.
On November 10, 1893 he married Nellie Mildred Vanderbilt, daughter of Steven Henry and Mary Marie (Withey) Vanderbilt, and they were blessed with 12 children.
During his lifetime, he was a steamboat pilot and an engineer and also a railroad engineer. Mr. and Mrs. Caya celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on November 10, 1960.
