ROCHELLE - John Wendling Sr., 225 Joanne Ln., Rochelle, died unexpectedly May 21 in Swedish-American Hospital, Rockford.

Mr. Wendling was born July 4, 1908 in Austria, the son of Phillip and Barbara Walters Wendling. He married the former Gladys Carpenter on Nov. 3, 1928 in Aurora.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and a 25-year member of Rochelle Kiwanis.

Mr. Wendling was owner and operator of Wendling Mobil Service from 1932 to 1945 and Wendling Motor Sales from 1945 to 1969 prior to his retirement.

Surviving are his widow, Gladys; one son, John Wendling Jr. of Rochelle; two grandchildren and two brothers, Michael and Joseph, both of Aurora.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Unger-Horner Funeral Home. The Rev. John Place and the Rev. John McKiness will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Montgomery.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established to Faith Lutheran Church, Rochelle.
