Memorial site. In memory of emergency workers from the city of Cleveland, Tennessee, and the entire Bradley County area who died in the line of duty. Among those honored are the five police officers killed in the line of duty in Bradley County. Sheriff Israel L. Smith was shot and killed while raiding a whiskey still on White Oak Mountain March 14, 1922. Deputy Taylor Caywood was killed Jan. 27, 1932, while returning a prisoner from another state. Cleveland Patrolman Bud Cash was killed at the intersection of Inman and Ocoee streets while running emergency traffic. Deputy Ken Wright, Sr., was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a violator on Aug. 22, 1971. He came to the aid of a Cleveland police officer and saved his life. Field Deputy Al McCullum was killed on a rescue attempt with the Cleveland/Bradley County Rescue Service in Meigs County on Sept. 16, 1989.
