Melvin Borgman, 85, of Orange City, IA, died on Sunday, September 29, 1996, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.

Memorial services were scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 1996, at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, the Reverend Mark DeWitt and die Reverend Arnold Punt officiating, with burial to take place previous to the service at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sioux Center was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Borgman was born on September 17, 1911, at Sioux Center, I A, the son of Menno "Jim" and Dena (Wesselink) Borgman. He attended Sioux County rural schools, graduated from Sioux Center High School, and also attended college at Ames.

On July 27, 1933, he married Harriet Schutt at Sioux Center.

The couple farmed in the Sioux Center area from 1936 to 1948, when he purchased and operated the Ireton Locker Plant. In 1957 they moved to Santa Maria, CA, where he worked for the Santa Barbara County Fairgrounds until 1977.

Mrs. Borgman died in November, 1978. He married Hermina Vande Brake on December 14, 1979, at Santa Maria. They moved to Sioux Center in 1980, and to Orange City in 1990.

Mr. Borgman was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. While living in California, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Maria, and served on the board of deacons and was an elder on The Session.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Dean C. and his wife, Karen, of Mesa, AZ; two daughters, Margaret E. Wielenga of Santa Maria and Mary J. and her husband, John Janezic of Tucson, AZ; a daughterin-law, Gail (Borgman) Wierzba and her husband, Dennis, of Tucson; three stepchildren, Virgil and his wife Colleen of Sheldon, Norlyn and his wife Sandy of Okoboji, and Twila and her husband Ken Netten of Alton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Jim; a son-in-law, Enno Wielenga; a stepgrandson; and 13 sisters, Rena Vermeer, Dora DeBey, Johanna Feekes, Mary Ten Napel, Alyda Vermeer, Ruth De Boer, Myna Poppcn, Henrietta De Boer, Grayce Borgman, Betty Borgman, Bernice Borgman, Esther Van Wyk, and Cynthia Borgman.
