Born in Eureka, Tommy was a lifelong resident of Humboldt County. He passed away at his residence in Rio Dell on April 13, 1985 at age 49.
Working in the logging industry for 24 years, he owned and operated Lyall Logging since 1962.
Active in the Associated California Loggers, Mr. Lyall served 10 years as a director of the logging association, and was chapter chairman for three years of the North Coast Chapter. He also served five years as a trustee of the Health and Accident Plan of the association.
He was a director and past president of the Redwood Region Logging Conference and a director of the Pacific Logging Conference.
Mr. Lyall was a member of the Eel River Lodge No. 147 F. & A.M. of Fortuna and the Native Sons of the Golden West of Ferndale.
He is survived by his wife, Marjy Lyall of Rio Dell; his daughter and son-in-law, Kaleen and Ross Fisher of Rio Dell; his mother and step-father, Maxine and James Hill of Rio Dell; his sister, Maxine Jaworski of Redwood City; his brothers, David Lyall of Rio Dell, Bill Lyall and Richard Hill, both of Phoenix, Arizona and Jimmy Hill of Reno, Nevada; his granddaughter, Chelsie Fisher of Rio Dell; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Lyall was preceded in death by his son, Allen Lyall in 1974, and his brother, George Lyall in 1972.
Services were held under the auspices of the Eel River Lodge No. 147 F. & A.M. at Goble's Chapel in Fortuna with internment following at Sunset Memorial Park, Eureka.
Casketbearers will be Ed Lewis, Harry McWhorter, Jim Wilson, Phil Rigley, Paul Guyot, Darrow Sauers, Jim McCollum and Hale Charlton. Honorary bearers will include Merle Okerstrom, Wayne Calder, Dick Bozarth, Russell McNamara, Bill Branstetter, Todd Treadwell, Tony Leonardo, Duane Burgess and Rex McBride.
