Caryl Jeanette Siebens

Caryl J. Siebens, 93, of Akron, Iowa, dies Tuesday, November 7, 2000, at the Akron City Convalescent Center.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2000, at Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural Akron, Iowa, with Reverend Randy Knuth officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation was from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday November 9, 2000, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Caryl was born September 15, 1907, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Estella (Tucker) McCorkell. She married John E. Siebens on May 22, 1929, in Akron, Iowa. He preceded her in death June 1977. She taught rural school in the Akron area up until that time. The couple farmed in the Akron area until they retired and moved to Akron in 1965.

Mrs. Siebens was a member of the Plymouth Presbyterian Church, JC Chapter of the PEO, Rural Home Culture Club, and Book and Thimble Club.

Survivors include: one son, Daryl Siebens and his wife, Claire, of Akron, Iowa; two daughters, Norma and her husband, Ronald Wendt, of Akron and Virginia and her husband, Edmond "Buzz" Leekley, of Westfield; one daughter-in-law, Donna Whitaker, of Frisco, Texas; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Whitaker, of Hamilton, Illinois; Jean Esterberg, of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Lois Nielsen, of Akron, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Myrtle McCorkell, of Salem, South Dakota, Blanche Siebens, of Le Mars, Iowa, and Martha Siebens, of Pampano Beach, Florida.

Mrs. Siebens was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, one son Phillip Whitaker, one grandson, Christopher Siebens, one great-grandson, Warren Rice, one brother, Wesley, and four sisters, Ester Clarey, Alta Mentzer, Sybil Whitaker, and Eva Olsen.

Organist was Shirley Timmins accompanying Lendsey Erickson who sang Precious Lord and Take My Hand. Musical selections for the congregation were Count Your Blessings said How Great Thou Art.

Lunch was served at the church following the committal service at the cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul Clarey, Howard McCorkell, Raymond McCorkell, Jim Mentzer, Norman Nielsen, Roger Nielsen.
