Mr. George Smith, 77, of Gray, passed away Sunday evening, January 24 , 2010 in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

He was a son of the late Nelson and Mariah Hale Smith born on May 8, 1932 in Knox County.

Mr. Smith was a former woodworker and a member of the Apple Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed carpentry and fishing.

He united in marriage with Hazel Carnes and to this union eight children were born.

Later, he united in marriage with Linda Sue Brooks.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jana Kay Smith; seven sisters, Ethel Morris, Mayme Morris, Clara Smith, Charity Mills, Alice Jackson, Amanda Hopkins and an infant sister; eight brothers, Arthur, Gilbert, Chris, Robert, Charles, Dexter, Otis and Senior Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Smith of Gray; seven children, Ronnie Smith and wife, Reba, of Salem, IN, Sharon Robertson of Vero Beach, FL, Pat Shotto of Fort Pierce, FL, Mike Smith of Georgetown, IN , Terry Smith of New Albany, IN, Jeff Smith of Clarksville, IN and Missy Smith of New Albany, IN; a step-daughter, Becky Powers of Barbourville; two sisters, Escline Young of Salem, IN and Lois Shular of Columbus, OH; a brother, Clarence Smith of Indian Creek; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, January 28 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Darrell Warren officiating.

He will be laid to rest in the Henry Mills Cemetery. Casket bearers will be family and friends.

George was the 4th cousin 2x's removed of Lee Smith.
