Actor. He will be best remembered for his role as 'Bob Whitstone,' in the western film, "The Forfeit" (1919). The film which was directed by Frank Powell and also stars House Peters, Jane Powell, and George Murdock, tells the story of a man named Jeffrey Masters who is disinherited by his father and who later leaves his New York home and amasses a fortune in Texas cattle country. When his younger brother Bob marries Elvine Van Blooren, known as 'Effie,' contrary to his father's wishes, he also is disinherited. Like Jeffrey, Bob goes West but turns to rustling and becomes the leader of a gang. When 'Effie,' who knows nothing about Bob's involvement with the gang, learns about their hiding place, she informs them of a much-needed $10,000 reward. Only after Bob is hanged does she learn that she caused his death. Jeffrey, searching for Bob, arrives to find him hanging. He cuts the body down and vows vengeance on his betrayer. Four years later, Jeffrey and 'Effie,' meet at a cattle convention, fall in love, and marry, but when he learns about her from Sikem Bruce, an ex-member of Bob's gang, Jeffrey tells her to forget their marriage. After 'Effie,' is wounded attempting to save Jeffrey from Sikem's ambush, Jeffrey bests Sikem and seeing 'Effie,' unconscious, realizes his love for her. A star of the silent film era, he appeared in films from 1916 to 1919. He was born as William Human one of two children to Charles G. Human and his wife Anna Lack Human in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 15, 1899, (some sources say March 15, 1890). He was educated locally and later moved and settled in Los Angeles, California, where he pursued an acting career. He made his film debut as 'Carlos,' in the war drama, "Behind The Lines" (1916). The film which was directed by Henry McRae and also stars Harry Carey Sr., Ruth Clifford, and Edith Johnson, is set during a rebellion in Mexico and tells the story of Nina Garcia, a diplomat's daughter, who is forced to become a spy for the revolutionaries. She works as a nurse in a military hospital and steals papers for the rebels, but officials finally discover her involvement in enemy espionage. Just as soldiers arrest her, she performs an experiment on herself, hoping to prove the worth of Dr. Ralph Hamlin's serum for gangrene. Unimpressed by her bravery and unmoved by Ralph's pleas for a pardon, the government orders her shot after her recovery from the injection. Finally, United States troops arrive and save Nina from execution. Besides, "Behind The Lines" (1916), and "The Forfeit" (1919), his many other film credits include, "Last Of The Morgans" (1916), "The Daring Chance" (1917), "A Boob For Luck" (1917), "One Wild Night" (1917), "An Eight Cylinder Romance" (1917), "Caught In The Act" (1917), "The Clean-Up" (1917), "The Unbroken Promise" (1919), and his last film role, as 'Paul Brighton,' in "The Adventures Of Ruth" (1919). He quit acting shortly thereafter and moved back to his native Texas. He passed away from what his death certificate lists as paralysis (insane), at the P & S Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, on October 8, 1923, at the age of 24 or 33. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Texas, under a heart-shaped stone that is inscribed with the words, "Son Billy Human." He was married to Margaret "Betty" Human (born about 1895), but it is unknown if the couple had any children. Her date of death and burial is currently unknown.
