Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Burnett was born Oct. 18, 1910 in Fort Collins, Colo. to Frank and Trudy (Dinnbeck) Burnett. Mr. Burnett graduated from high school in Ft. Collins and from Capital School of Pharmacy in Denver.

He worked as a pharmacist in several Wyoming communities including Rock Springs, Casper, Gillette and Sheridan before coming to Douglas. In 1942, he purchased Shaffer Drug Store in downtown Douglas and went into business for himself. After many years he sold his business, but continued to work in the store as a part-time pharmacist for several years. When he retired in the mid-1980s, he was practicing pharmacy at R-D Pharmacy and Books.

Mr. Burnett married Margaret Carolyn Ward on June 28, 1940, in Douglas.

He was an original member of Douglas Community Golf Club and Klondike Bridge Club. He was a longtime member of Douglas Congregational Church and a 50-year member of the Mason Order of Ashlar Lodge #10. In addition, he was a York Right Mason and a Shriner.

He is survived by his siter, Ruth Burnett McDonald of Ft. Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret, on Jan. 20, 1995; daughter Carolyn Ann Burnett on July 29, 1954; and brother Raymond Burnett.
