Corinne Gaston, beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 3, 2011. Corinne was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James Denver Gaston.

We would like to offer this tribute to honor our mother who graciously endured and valiantly fought a thirteen -year battle with Parkinson's disease and Lewybody dementia. Corinne was a very quiet and private lady who beautifully exemplified a life of faithfulness and unconditional love to her family and those who knew her well.

Corinne enjoyed serving others "behind the scenes" from making meals, baking cakes and cookies and tying Elementary choir bows to comforting babies in the nursery at First United Methodist Church. She especially looked for opportunities to cheer and encourage others through calls, notes and flowers. She faithfully and lovingly nursed Denver back to health through four major surgeries over the last twenty years of their marriage.

Corinne Wolfe Gaston was born on August 8, 1924 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Lucius B. and Miriam Wolfe. Corinne was born third of five children. There were always colorful stories of a fun and adventuresome childhood as her father was overseer of such historic properties as Vernon Lodge, Garnett, South Carolina; Delta Plantation, Hardeeville, South Carolina; and Okefenokee Swamp, Waycross, Georgia. Before the family moved to Georgia, Corinne was crowned Miss Junior South Carolina. She graduated salutatorian from Hardeeville High School and was planning a career in nursing. With the advent of WWII, however, she stayed home to assist her mother in teaching school in the Okefenokee Grammar School. Corinne was selected to be photographed for the Okefenokee Swamp Park Brochure and later became Miss Savannah. After being crowned Miss Savannah she competed in the Miss Georgia Pageant later that year. She met Denver Gaston in 1946 while he was working for the Georgia State Patrol. At a routine road block he saw a beautiful young woman driving a vehicle with one headlight out and the rest is history. They married in September 1948.

Denver was elected sheriff of Carroll County in 1950 and Corinne helped him serve the community assisting him in the Sheriff's office. During her early years in Carrollton, she was very active in the First United Methodist Church and other community clubs. She served a term as President of the Women's Auxiliary of the

American Legion and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Corinne loved being a stay-at-home wife and mother.

Denver and Corinne were avid supporters of the Carrollton High School Band, Basketball, Football and Track teams not only while their children attended school there but for many decades afterward.

She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Fennel, of Savannah, Georgia; three children, Allen Gaston and his wife Stacy of Carrollton, GA, Wren Heavener and her husband Jerry, of Harleysville, PA, and Carol Mudd and her husband Tony, of Arlington, TX. Her nine grandchildren are Kenzie, Sydney, Reed and Rhett Gaston, Jennifer and Christopher Heavener, and John, James, and Amanda Mudd. She was preceded in death by sisters Jeanne Stephenson and Faye Digby and her brother L.B. Wolfe.

Over the last eight years, Mildred Gaston Jobe, Corinne's sister-in-law, has faithfully been there to support her through this most difficult time in her life, for which we are very thankful.

Additionally, the family would like to thank Ms. Karen Powell, of Southern Comfort, for the excellent care our mother received over the past eight years.

While we are deeply saddened by our loss, we rejoice in celebrating her life. We lovingly give this tribute to our mother in gratitude to the legacy she passes on to her children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Saturday, March 12 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Funeral service will be Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Almon Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Old Camp United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Carroll County Veterans Memorial Park, PO Box 1062, Carrollton, GA 30112.
