Andrew Drewniak, Douglas county pioneer, was born in Kronanke, West Prussia, Germany, January 30, 1851, and passed away June 8, 1932 at 2:00 a.m. at Leaf Valley township. Mr. Drewniak came to America in 1868, lived in Philadelphia for several years, at which time he moved to Chicago which was his home for several years. He came to Millerville in 1875 where he continued to follow his trade of shoemaker for a few years. About fifty-three years ago he took a homestead in Leaf Valley township which has been his home until his death. He was united in marriage to Louisa Kapphahn November 5, 1879 in Leaf Valley. Eleven children were born to this union, two having died in infancy. The surviving are: John of Billings, Mont.; August of Spokane, Wash.; Martin of Chinook, Mont.; Joe of Chinook, Mont.; Lewis of Sentinal Butte, N. Dak.; Steve and William at home, Tillie (Mrs. Matt Thoenes) of Leaf Valley and Dorothy (Mrs. Joe Thoenes) of Alexandria. One sister, Mrs. August Wilhelm of Millerville, 27 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Drewniak passed away eight years ago.
Mr. Drewniak was a member of St. Josephs Society of Millerville and was a true and faithful member of the Catholic church. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the residence and 10 o'clock at the Church of Seven Dolors at Millerville, Rev. Father Wilkes officiating. Interment will be made in the Catholic cemetery at Millerville. The pallbearers will be Frank Guenther, Lawrence Schecher, Alfred Guenther, William Shea, James Kelly, John Klimek and John Kelly, crossbearer.
