Joan writes, my great-grandfather, Bernhard was born in Waibstadt Germany as was my grandfather, Louis. Louis married Bertha and in 1921 they had a son - Arthur - who is my father. Arthur grew up in Frankfurt, Germany, but fled to NYC when he was 17. Louis was in a concentration camp but escaped and Bertha and Louis settled in NYC, opening their tailorshop once again. My dad, Arthur, did not see his parents for 5 years as he was serving in the Army and got his citizenship papers in Saipan after he had served for four years! We all speak German and eat too many German foods!
