John Hanna was born in 1815, in St Lawrence county, New York, and worked as a farmer in that state until 1866, at which time he came to Minnesota and located on his present farm in Beauford. In 1842 he married Mary Purves, a native of Scotland. They have eight children: Margaret, David, Thomas P, Isabelle, William A, Robert B, James M and Flora E.
