American Folk Singer and Songwriter. He began singing publicly while he was in the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he sang folk songs on the Armed Forces Radio. After the war, he moved to Los Angeles where he developed his art. In 1950 he wrote his first hit song "Cry of the Wild Goose", which was recorded by Frankie Lane. He was signed by Decca records and sang with a folk group known as the Weavers. They had a hit with "On Top of Old Smokey". He had penned numerous songs and recorded several albums with his trio Terry Gilkyson and the Easy Riders. In 1956, He had another song, which he wrote and was recorded by Dean Martin, "Memories are Made of This." In 1957, his song "Marianne" was a hit song recorded by the Hilltoppers and in 1960 the Brothers 4 recorded the song "Greenfields". In the 1960's, Walt Disney provided an outlet for Terry's talent, where he began writing songs for the Wonderful World of Disney Television show. As time progressed, he wrote additional songs that were used as theme music for several of Disney's movies such as the "Aristocats". In 1968, he wrote the well-known tune "Bare Necessities" which used in the Disney movie, "The Jungle Book".
