Marko was born in Delnice, Croatia, the son of Marko Gasparac (1856-1940) and Marija nee Majnaric (1861-1908). He emigrated to the U.S. in 1913. He returned to Delnice to marry Franka Snajdar on October 9, 1926, returning soon after the marriage. The couple initially lived in Joliet, Illinois and, after 1929, in Chicago. He first worked in coal mines and, starting in the 1920s, in steel mills. He was the father of four children: Bernice, Lillian, William (Bill), and Violet.
