LaVerd Whitehead Hammond, 88, of Idaho Falls, died at the Idaho Falls Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born at St. George, Utah to William Arthur Whitehead and Clara Myrtle Watson. Following high school, she attended Dixie College and then Utah State University where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Clothing and Textiles. On December 26, 1941, she married Owen Holt Hammond in the St. George Temple. In 1948 they moved to Idaho Falls. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. LaVerd was a loving mother and grandmother, and enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and music. She had also served as President of the Idaho Falls Music Club.

Daughters: Pat (Lynn) Harker and Paula (Jeff) Krantz, both of Idaho Falls;
Siblings: Bill Whitehead, Melissa Whitehead, Pat Cobia, and Mona Rae Nielsen, all of Utah
10 Grandchildren & 7 Great Grandchildren

She was preceded by her husband Owen Hammond; son Richard Hammond; three brothers; and a sister. Burial in Taylor Cemetery under direction of Wood Funeral Home.
