Polly D. Ames, 81, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005, in Rakhma Grace House, Minnetonka, MN.

Polly D. Carter was born to Leroy and Grace (Walden) Carter on February 13, 1923, in Grand Forks, ND. She graduated from North Dakota State University in 1944 with a degree in education and later went on to receive her Master's Degree. She married William Ames on September 9, 1948, at First Presbyterian Church in Fargo, ND. She began teaching in 1959 at West Fargo High School. She then taught at Ben Franklin Jr. High beginning in 1969 and continued there until her retirement in 1988. She moved closer to her family in 1999. She enjoyed traveling, and visited England several times.

She liked gathering with family and friends, reading, growing roses and collecting china.

She is survived by her children: Polly D. Ames, Burnsville, MN, Nancy G. Ames, Roseville, MN, and William Ames (Sherry) Elk River, MN; two grandsons: Justin and Jason; and one brother: Roy Carter (Terri) Pequot Lakes, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, William.

The funeral will be on Friday, January 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church, Fargo, ND. Visitation will be held in the church on Friday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
