He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1996 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Charity Baptist Church and UAW Local #371. He enjoyed working on automobiles.
Survivors include his wife: Sue (Patton) Adkins, whom he married December 23, 1962; one son: David Adkins of New Castle; five brothers: Hollis Adkins and Collins Adkins, both of Monticello, Kentucky, Kermit Adkins of Shirley, Kenneth Adkins of Jamestown, Tennessee, and Mack Adkins of Dwight, Illinois; three sisters: Nova Tinch, Rose Tinch and Stella Capps, all of Jamestown, Tennessee; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Franklin D. Adkins.
Services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle with the Reverends Larrel Boling, Eric Boling and Larry Delon officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion & veterans of Foreign Wars.
Burial will follow in Green Hill Memory Gardens.
