Phebe Biggs Townsend
Phebe Biggs b. 24 Jul 1805 and d. 30 Apr 1889. She is buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery west of Franklin, IN. On 22 Dec 1826 she was married to Major Townsend. He was b. 1796 in Maryland and d. 3 Aug 1845 in Indiana. He is buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Franklin, IN. His father was Joshua Townsend and his mother Sarah Merrell.
Phebe Biggs was 7 years old when the massacre at Pigeon Roost took place. Her escape, as she clung to her mother's skirt, was told many times in later years to her grandchildren.

Phoebe Townsend, who died April 30th at her home one mile west of Union church was 84 years old and came to this county in 1829 and settled on the farm where she died.
