NASCAR Winston Cup race driver. A rookie on the circuit, he was killed in an accident on 129th of a 328 lap contest at the Atlanta Motor Speedway when he struck the inside dirt bank on the speedway's backstretch. He was competing in just his second Winston Cup Grand National race. He became the first driver fatality in the history of the 1.522-mile oval.
