U.S. Congressman. Moving to New York in 1821, he became successful in the mercantile business. He was a delegate to the Democratic New York State convention in 1830 and was appointed commissioner of deeds at Ithaca, New York in 1837. In 1838, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Andrew D. W. Bruyn, serving until 1839. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a delegate to the New York and Erie Railroad Convention and resumed his former business pursuits until his death at age 63.
